History

COMMERCE The first agency of the National Bank was opened in Wongan Hills in 1908 by Mr CB Edwards from Goomalling who operated in a tent in the Railway Reserve until the bank was built. The National Bank opened on 12 October 1910 before the railway even came to Wongan Hills. It was with local stone by the enterprising Mr EJ Brown's, son-in-Law Mr Reynoldson. Mr R Bott was the first Manager until 1914 when the management changed, and Mr EL Seymour took over until 1916 when it reverted to being a receiving office for Goomalling Branch. In 1926 the bank assumed full branch status again under the management of Walter Jenner who stayed until 1932. 1932 - 1939, through the depression years, there is no listed manager, perhaps the bank did not operate. However from 1939 until 1943 when the bank closed due to World War Two rationalisation, FR Davidson was the manager.
