Statement of Significance

The site is significant for its association with early method of transport of people, produce
and stock.

Physical Description

Situated in a 100 acre reserve on the SW edge of "Yairibin" farm.

The second well (dug to a depth of 60 feet) was lined with wandoo plants. It is situated
near the old Yairibin Bridge built by Bill Cronin and Tom Haddleton. In recent years it
has silted up with sand being washed down the creek. Situated just west of the bridge and
Haddleton's Yairibin well in the same gully.

History

There were two wells sunk in the area as part of the government's policy of providing
water for travellers, teamsters and drivers. The first well was spoiled by the high
magnesium content of the water. The later well held only about 10 feet of water (it was
sunk to a depth of 60 feet) and was difficult to draw water from.
