Building forms part of remnant building stock which makes up historic town's fabric.
Single-storey brick and iron house built c.1912 with bullnosed verandah turned posts and double sash windows on either side of a central front door. Two large palm trees in front garden, possibly planted around time of construction.
The house may be associated with Edward Taylor who arrived in Western Australia in 1866 as a convict. He married Emma Hutchings of Toodyay who was baker in town from 1877-c.1880. They moved to Guildford with four children and Edward worked as labourer and sawyer. At one stage they lived in weatherboard cottage in the museum precinct. The Taylors then moved into either this cottage or another brick cottage in Meadow Street.
