Statement of Significance

The hall is significant to the social and historic development of Boyup Brook and is a landmark in the town centre.

Physical Description

The building is of a simple rectangular plan constructed of stone with brick quoins, has a gable roof sheeted with corrugated iron. It is the town's only surviving historic building and stands in a triangular park at the centre of town.
The enclosed section at the front has a skillion roof and is a later addition but constructed in similar materials to link with the original building.

History

Boyup Brook Hall was constructed as an agricultural hall, by a Mr Scotty Gray in 1909, of local stone. It was funded by a government subsidy of 2 pounds for every 1 pound raised locally.

It is the town's only surviving historic building and stands in a triangular park at the centre of town. In its early years the building was used for the recreational and social gatherings of the district (balls, weddings, concerts etc) while two rooms at the rear were used as a meeting place for the Upper Blackwood Roads Board. Other uses over the years have included Church services, extra school rooms, infant health centre, kindergarten and playgroup and presently the Boyup Brook tourist centre.
