The site is important for its association with the development of recreational activities in the district.
It is situated behind (north of) the school (hall) site. Several tall posts which have been drilled through to attach the wire and netting remain. Also the remnants indicating a toilet further north. Bush has regrown over the entire area.
Opposite Sunter Road is a long narrow reserve which runs north/west of the road to
Forbes Road. This is part of a long flat plain which extends from the base of the Bullock Hills almost to Glencoe.
The area was first opened up around 1907 with large scale settlement for farming.
