It is important for the role it has played in communications in the district.
With a height of 369.1 metres, the hill is the second highest in the Shire (behind Mine
Hill 371.6m). Communication rating is NT4.
Situated to the east of the smaller Kunmallup Hill, these two hills dominate the landscape
as they rise above the plains of the Beaufort River. These granite hills were originally
covered with jam (acacia acuminata) thickets.' A small soak with the same name is
nearby.
During the 1960's a BTW3 Micro Wave Repeater Station was erected at the hill summit
for South West Telecasters (who later sold out to GWN). SW Telecasters established the
transmission Tower. The sheds housed two diesel engines to generate power as at that
stage there was no SEC connection to the site as today.
The tower is enclosed with a high fence - two brick buildings with the tower on the south
end. The tower is approximately 15-16m high with a webbed disk facing west. There
was greatly improved viewing for local TV viewers after this installation.
During the Second World War this was a trig point - several army personnel regularly
visited the site. It was connected to other sites - Martup Hill etc. The summit had a
magnificent view over Beaufort River (south and east)
