Statement of Significance

The Moreton Bay Fig Tree has significant landmark value.
The tree has historic significance as it was planted in the early 1900s.

Physical Description

The tree is a fine specimen of Ficus macrophylla as a mature tree. A dominant element in streetscape – unique in form and character in city centre, associated with historic buildings in immediate vicinity. Appropriate management of root area required.

History

The tree was planted in the early 1900’s. The tree has grown and developed into a significant element in the streetscape.
The tree is located in front of Kirkman House which was built in 1909. It is known to me a meeting place for visitors, nurses and other staff over the decades.
