Statement of Significance

The site represents a place which demonstrates a way of life, and associations with pioneers of the district.

History

The original proprietor's of the blacksmith shop was A Blake. He was a wagon maker, wheelwright and farrier. His assistant, Jim Davies, often travelled to outlying properties to shoe horses and repair wagon wheels. With the development of motor vehicles, Blake became the town mechanic until the first garage opened in town. Bill Clulow took over the blacksmith's shop, and Jim Davies opened another one with Bert Eaton as his mechanic. In the vicinity of the blacksmith shop is the site of the town horse trough where water was provided from Parker's Toapin Weir. (Reference No. 51)
