Significant but not essential to an understanding of the history of the district: photographically recorded prior to any major redevelopment or demolition.

Statement of Significance

The place is significant as it is a burial site - one of a number of lonely graves in the
Shire.

Physical Description

Lies to the west of Bokaring Creek (about 50 metres) and about one third of the distance
to two large white gums in the cleared paddock. Apparently the site originally had rocks
marking it. With clearing and cropping and a succession of owners the rocks have been
dispersed. The grave site is about 100-150 metres SW of the site of the original house
which stood just east of the Bokaring Creek.

History

Little is known about a man named Fisher who is said to have died of gunshot wounds at
Bockaring in about 1896. The police in Wagin had asked a 12 year old lad, William
Deverick Fransisco, who was staying with his uncle, James Spratt, proprietor of the
Wagin Hotel, to take two policemen in this cart to Bockaring Well where Fisher lived. It
appeared as though Fisher was in debt and if he didn't pay he would be arrested and
brought back to Wagin.

Young Fransisco was told by the police on arriving at Bockaring to stay in the cart as
Fisher was a big Irishman and may become violent. Fransisco heard a shot - Fisher had
apparently resisted and was shot by one of the policemen. He was told that Fisher had
shot himself and that he (Fransisco) was not to know anything to the contrary.
