The significance of Honest lohn's building is its integral link with the Historic Wyndham Port Precinct. The 1890s architectural style is of scientific and aesthetic appeal and fits with the overall architectural theme of the historic precinct. It was the first drapery shop established in Wyndham and was a central meeting place for the shopping community, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal. It is a major attraction for visitors today.
The building is of a simple two roomed construction in timber, fibro and corrugatcd iron. A gabled roof slopes away to a skillion roofed verandah supported by metal pillars (these were originally timber). The building is located on the western side of O'Donnel Street and is a part of the main historic precinct.
Integrity: Most of original fabric left. Some internal alterations destroyed some materials.
Modifications: Minimal internal modifications
