The site represents a place which demonstrates a way of life, technical achievement and associations with pioneers of the district.
Originally built as an undertaker's, the place was later converted to a garage. J Cruttenden also ran a saddlery from the premises. The garage was later run by Frank Treloar, a mechanic and inventor. Frank's father Clem Treloar had ridden his pushbike from South Australia in the 1890s goldrushes, subsequently served in the Boer War and returned to take up a block previously owned by Bert and Percy Wilson, known as "Summer hills". In 1936 Frank Treloar invented the "Depressed air bag loader" which simplified the process of loading bags of wheat onto trucks for transport to the bulk grain store at Dangin. During the war years he also invented a Gas Producer which was fitted to motor vehicles during petrol rationing. He also invented an air mortar which was trialed by the VDC and sent to Melbourne for Army testing. It subsequently was not accepted. He was very skilled in repairing farm machinery, thereby saving the farmer having to buy new equipment. In 1944 Frank Treloar closed the garage, and left the district.
