The place represents the enterprising nature of the early settlers, and demonstrates a way of life .no longer practiced.
The blacksmith business was being run by Mr Dewhurst when Errol Gannaway took over in 1933. Gannaway ran the blacksmith business, shoeing horses and repairing wagon wheels, in addition to engineering and plumbing works which included the installation and repair of the many windmills in and out of town. When coke was in short supply for the forge, so he burned his own charcoal. The Gannaway family continue the tradition.
