The site is closely associated with the provision.of schooling in the district.
The site adjoins Harvey and School Roads north of Cartmeticup. Nothing remains on the site.
This land was the southern most of a number of blocks taken up by RJ Wreford on the NE side of Harvey Road extending almost to Bokaring Well. The Cartmeticup School had been closed at the original site in 1926 when the numbers fell below eight. The shift to the new site was accomplished by cutting the weatherboard school and playshed into sections. After being transported to the new site and re-erected, Miss B Munday, the teacher, had 18 pupils regularly attending. These children were from the C Kealley, R Wreford, A Patterson, Black, Garrity, Cronin and Shackley families. At times there were also Aboriginal children attending when their parents were camped nearby.
A number of teachers taught at the Cartmeticup School while at the northern site. Miss B Munday the original teacher was transferred after one year and her place taken by Miss Cameron. At the end of the year Miss Cameron was transferred and Miss Munday returned for a period of about three years. Miss Sylvia Kemble, a Katanning girl, taught next and she travelled home each night, the other teachers boarded locally. Miss G Symes followed Miss Kemble and after that a run of male teachers, Dan McCarthy, AC Staples, Charlie Paton and Ron Steven carried on until the war years. Miss M Maugher, Miss Elsie Frost and Miss Smith then taught until the closure of the school in 1945 when school buses were introduced. Charlie Paton later became headmaster of the Katanning Primary School which received most of the children from the Cartmeticup and Glencoe Schools.
The families of Rol Patterson, Crossleys, Kerrs, Loyd Suggs, Walkers and Crosbys attended this school at later dates.
