The cemetery is an important site for the Wandering community providing a link with past citizens.
The entrance to the cemetery is formed by two curved low walls of random rubble stone with entry gates in the centre. The gates are mild steel and were erected in 1990 .
The vertical members of the gates extend to form a symmetrical curved shape, each terminating in a spear head.
The front fence of the cemetery grounds is built with timber posts with galvanised iron railings. The side and rear fences are standard timber post and wire mesh fencing.
The Cemetery Index at the Battye Library indicates that the.first burial at the cemetery was registered as 8 January 1873. This was an Anglican headstone, the first Roman Catholic headstone being dated 25 May 1888.
The gates of the cemetery were erected on 21 October 1990, by the descendants of early Wandering settlers, George Stedman and Amelia Watts to commemorate the anniversary of their arrival in the Swan River Colony.
