Statement of Significance

The place demonstrates associations with local business identities,
and a way of life. It is a good example of the period in Kulin.

Physical Description

The timber framed and weatherboard clad building has a gambrel roof with a gable on
the front protruding room. A return verandah extends down the north side. The verandah is a
separate roof at a lower pitch than the main roof. It is a substantial home for the period in Kulin.

History

After establishing a branch of WM Butler and Co in the mid
1920s, with a manager, WM Butler's son WH (also Bill) Butler established in Kulin and took over
management of the agency. He built this house and later the garage on the prime corner site on the
south side, (see Ref No.2)
