The site is important for its association with the development of recreational activities in
the district.
The courts are situated on the east side of the Recreation Ground. The four bitumen
surfaced courts run north-south and are enclosed with a netting fence.
On the west side is the Sports pavilion constructed in 1969
A tennis club had been formed and courts constructed in early 1914, both suffered with
the onset and the after effects of the first war. It was not until late 1930 that the tennis
club applied colas to their courts.
During the depression years the tennis club went ahead. It was reformed in 1930 and
colas was first applied to the surface of the courts in November of that year.
