The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place is a component of a nationally significant townsite which represents the historical development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.
The single-storey gabled structure is a four-roomed dwelling comprising a kitchen at the rear with an external chimney that has a brick base and iron flue. The building has a wide bullnosed verandah roof that extends across the front elevation.
The building features double-hung sash windows, metal louvred vents (in the gable walls) and a decorative florentine blind to the window at the rear of the building. A side window has smaller panes divided by slim glazing bars. „
The place has been extended at the rear, under a lean-to roof, with a further gabled roof addition to the rear.
The place has cgi balustrade infill (some sheets missing) and a new timber panelled door. Some verandah roof sheets are missing.
In 1987, under a National Estate Grants Program, conservation works were undertaken to seven buildings within the Gwalia Townsite. Works to this structure included: securing loose cladding sheets, replacement of missing cladding sheets, replacement of doors, and the sealing of window openings.
