Aesthetically significant as a fine example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey stone and painted brick quoining and a zincalume hipped roof house. The dropped verandah is supported by chamfered timber collared posts.
McCleery Street was named after John McCleery, a Fremantle merchant and auctioneer from 1879 to 1889. He died in 1911.
In 1904/5 cottage number 22 on this lot 8 of 19/22B of CSL7. The owner/occupier was Cecil Conway.
