The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.
The building is surrounded by lawn and established gardens which contain tall trees. A new wired fence protects the dwelling.
The original building has a high-pitched gable roof with rear additions, with lean-to roofs, and a verandah that extends across the front elevation. Original windows with awnings remain to side elevations.
The building has been modernised and now has louvred windows and aluminium sliding framed openings on the front elevation. The place retains some outbuildings.
