The site has associations with the beginnings of law and order in Wongan Hills.
The first gaol in Wongan Hills was built by Mr Gammal, and the Police Officer from Goomalling was the only officer in the district, visiting at regular intervals and as required. The horse paddocks were located behind the gaol. The horse trough has been relocated to the park in Fenton St.
