Statement of Significance

The place represents ways of life, community co-operation and
associations with pioneers and the agricultural development of the region.

History

In 1927 Dick Wakeman ran his dealership from a former building on this site. Wakeman was a member of the Narembeen Roads Board and the creator of Wakeman's Ski lake. In 1937 Nichols took over and remained for a number of years. In 1947 the newly formed Narembeen club purchased the property from Mr Harring, and refurbished the place for the club premises which they used until 1956 when the new premises was opened in Thomas St. Subsequently a new showrooms and office facility was constructed at the front of the site and the Chamberlain Deere dealership operated from there. In the late 1980s when Chamberlain withdrew their dealership within an Australian wide rationalisation program, a consortium of local residents in Narembeen formed a company to retain the services in the town of Narembeen. Aquip Machinery is that company.
Also on this lot was Mrs Hilton's pastry shop. Mrs Hilton had the distinction of being a bride at the first wedding ceremony in the district.
