History

In 1926 the Bank of New South Wales building was constructed, opening on 14 June, and it operated until 1939 when it was closed due to a policy of only one bank in a town. After Dr AF (Paddy) Janes arrived in Corrigin in 1946, and took over Dr Eini's (Einikivich) practice located in the Co-op building, he moved into Dr Eini's house in Goyder St (39). Dr Janes relocated the consulting rooms at the to the bank. He remained the Shire medical officer for 21 years, served on the hospital board, was President of the RSL for 15 years, President of Rotary, Bowling Club, Foundation member of the Pool Committee, Chairman if the St John Ambulance, and a Justice of the Peace. He left Corrigin in 1967, when the Shire already had begun the construction of a purpose built surgery and residence. After Dr Janes left, the building was converted to its original function as a bank.
