The place is of social significance representing the importance of health in the State. Historic significance representing a significant state government building project.

Multi-storey cream face brick building with Donnybrook stone trim. Strong horizontal emphasis with continuous cantilevered balconies on each floor on the Wellington Street facade. Green terra-cotta tiles to Wellington Street entrance.
The A Block of the Royal Perth Hospital was constructed between 1939 and 1956. It was the largest State Government building project undertaken at the time.
The building was designed by the Architectural division of the Public Works Department.
