Moonlight Bridge was a private engineering initiative which provided an important link for neighbours M Ommanney and Reverend R J Wollaston, and other residents crossing the Preston River to make their way on foot to attend St Mark's Anglican Church, visit with the local families, or make their way further along the Picton Road toward Bunbury.

Moonlight Bridge, a timber footbridge spanning the Preston River, was built c 1840 to link Reverend J R Wollaston’s property with his neighbour Assistant Surveyor Henry Ommanney at Moorlands. It has been recorded that the bridge was engineered by Ommanney and that the Wollastons welcomed its construction.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the name “Moonlight” may have been connected with an Aboriginal named Moonlight who is said to have fallen from the bridge and drowned.
The bridge was later damaged by flood waters and repaired by Gervaise Clifton (manager of his sister’s property Moorlands. In 1910, another flood damaged the bridge and the Rose family objected to rebuilding it to maintain the family’s privacy.
Local sources believe that an original post remains in situ, marking the location of Moonlight Bridge.
