The City of Fremantle has identified this place as being of exceptional cultural heritage significance in its own right within the context of Fremantle and its conservation is required. It is recommended that this place be considered for entry in the Heritage Council of Western Australia's Register of Heritage Places.

Statement of Significance

The place is of historic significance as an example of a commercial building in the Old Port City of Fremantle dating from the gold boom period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The building is not highly intact and recent fabric is not significant.

Physical Description

Two storey stone rendered building with steeply pitched tiled and hipped gabled roof over the truncated corner. The building has a zero setback from the pavement and a veranda awning over the ground floor. There are arched timber awning windows on the first floor and metal windows to the ground floor (probably not original).

History

A butcher's shop from 1894 to c1915. Then occupied by offices for A E Davies & Co from c1930 to 1980s, then Bowra & O'Dea, until 2002. Currently (2002), for lease.

Condition

Fair.
