The place is considered to have some significance to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder: to be retained and conserved if possible, and the conservation of the significance of the place should also be encouraged. It is recommended that prior to any major changes, or demolition, that a photographic record be taken of the place.

Statement of Significance

The place makes a valued contribution to the visual character of this important streetscape in its verandah cover over the pavement and its parapet. The building contributes to the masonry 'wall' of Hannan Street.

The site is representative of retailing at the turn-of-the-century and is significant for its form and continuity of use.

Physical Description

The site comprises five separate shopfronts within four different parapet frontages, one of which is double-storey. The centre two parapets are similar in design and are both rendered with moulded detailing. The double storey building has a distinctive facebrick and contrasting render façade that responds to the design, detail and materials of the adjoining McKenzie building. It has a central arched window, arched rendered detailing that steps around the edges, recessed central motif and stepped rendered parapet.

Typical features that characterise the building's period are the recessed entrances with large display windows on each side with stall boards below and highlight windows above, and a verandah that extends across the facade and over the pavement. The verandah roof is supported by slender timber columns, likely to be replaced fabric. The fascia signs are additions.
