Considerable Significance |
This London Plane Tree (Platanus x hispanica) has aesthetic, social and historic heritage significance. It was planted during the time of the Millars Brothers and remains as the only ornamental tree in existence from those times. The site was originally Denmark's first school and the tree provided shade for generations of students. It includes a commemorative plaque erected by the Historical Society. Two Plane Trees were planted originally, but one was felled to allow the Infant Health Centre to be built in 1956.
Planted 1896.
The Plane Tree creates an interesting foreground to the Craft Shop.
It is approximately 20 metres tall and provides dense shade in summer. A plaque close by, mounted in a cement block, gives details about the tree.
