Statement of Significance

The oval is of historical importance as it was originally used as a parade ground for the Enrolled Pensioner Force (1851). The grandstand, constructed in 1897 is typical of the early type of Australian Grandstand and on of the few remaining examples in WA.

Physical Description

Stuccoed stone superstructure with twin towers and post and beam covered seating area. Towers are capped with an ogee turret. The main roof features a series of small pitched sections with ornately carved timber gables ends facing the oval. The large open space beneath the stand was originally a dining room. A cyclone fence to the front of the stand is an unsympathetic later addition. Formerly a parade ground for Enrolled Pensioner Force.
