Statement of Significance

Notable as a well on a very early settlement site in the Williams area and the original selector
Michael Quinn was a prominent citizen for many years (1860-1903).

Physical Description

'Glenfield', 12 kms SE of Williams. The well is some 50 metres NW of the homestead on the
perimeter of remnants of the once large orchard that originally extended from the homestead down
to the creek in the west The well is said to be 80 feet (25 metres) in depth.
In more recent times a concrete lid has been placed on the top of the well and 240v power is used to
pump water from this source.

History

The position of the house is unusual for those times as it is located on a granite hill some distance
from other likely water sources. The depth of the well would indicate that there was little or no
indication on the earth's surface of ready availability of water.
