Statement of Significance

The Stock Route has high historic significance given its connection to the early settlement of the district.
RECOMMENDATION
Efforts should be made to document and conserve the remaining elements of the Stock Route, in particular the wells.

Physical Description

The former Stock Route runs the length of the shire, traversing both Crown Reserves and farming properties. Evidence of the route remains in the form of stone lined wells.

History

The stock route was established in the early 1850s for the moving of stock to newly settled grazing areas in the north, and later to send stock to the Perth markets.
