Statement of Significance

It is important for its association with the development of the district.

Physical Description

The soak is situation in the SE corner of Location 3128. It is located in a gully about 100 metres west of the
Winjedyne homestead. Originally a stoned well it has been excavated to a small dam size with a plentiful
supply of water. Water in the adjacent creek bed is slightly brackish. The dam has a flat bed rock bottom
and a line of dyke rocks runs to the east by the homestead. Tree planting has taken place in recent years
either side of the dam.

History

Land surrounding the soak (42 acres) was surveyed in 1906 and was taken up by Charles Leopard who selected three adjoining blocks to the west, south and east totalling 804 acres. Leopard built a fine stone house here and his brother Fred was also here for a time. However, debts mounted and RL Richardson, the storekeeper, foreclosed and the property was leased to Frank Carter who joined Leopard's boundary on the west. After about five years of leasing, the farm was sold to EJ (Ted) Reschke who farmed it until 1939 when Harold O'Brien (formerly from South Australia) purchased it. Some years later it was sold to the Beeck family and then to the Pickford family, the present owners.
