DUPLEX, 175B HAMPTON ROAD

History

The street derives its name from John Stephen Hampton, the Governor from 1862-68, previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment.
The land on which duplex 175a – 175b Hampton Road stands was vacant in 1925/26. In this rate period the ownership of the vacant lot had changed from Henry Joseph de San Miguel to Edward William Warren Mews. In 1926/27 Mews had a house built which he occupied into the 1950s.
The house was originally numbered 303 and changed to its current number in 1935/36 and is Lot 51 of CSL 134.
