The place reflects the expansion and development of residential and commercial buildings on the city fringes during the rapid population increase of the 1890s gold boom and the early years of the twentieth century, and the resultant changing demographic character and local community of the area. The place is also a rare example of a modest residentail building from the late 19th century clsoe to Perth.
Single storey brick residence with hipped cgi roof. Verandah to front under separate roof supported on concrete columns. Face brick chimneys with rendered cornices.
The west side of Lake Street was largely settled by the end of the first decade of the twentieth century. Apart from a grocer's store towards the corner of Lake and Aberdeen, all other places listed in the 1906 Post Office Directory appear to be households.
