The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.
The building is in a lawned and garden setting. The original building is covered with multiple gables with eaves that protect the openings on the west elevation. The walls of the original building are clad in weatherboards. The exterior of the building retains metal florentine window awnings.
A verandah to the front comer of the dwelling has been partially enclosed with fibro-cement wall linings, and a lean-to roof.
Alterations to the exterior of the building include louvred windows, sliding aluminium window frames, and a rear extension clad in cgi. An outbuilding has been added to the rear.
