The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.
The gabled cottage has a front verandah, rear additions, and an enclosed rear verandah. Alterations to the cottage have been carried out including a new metal bargeboard, aluminium window frames, concrete rear verandah with green shade-cloth screens and new iron roof supports to the rear verandah roof. The original gabled roof appears to have been reclad. Cgi wall cladding has been patched. The front verandah is in a dilapidated condition. Since 1985, a new boundary fence with gate has been erected.
