Interpretation |
The place has aesthetic and historic significance as the site of former markets, and now as a parkland reserve in Subiaco, and has social significance to the community as a place for social and recreational activities.
Open grassed area with central gazebo, terraced area, park benches and several species of trees.
Market Square was the location of the first markets in Subiaco. In 1922 the area of former Commonage was procured from the Government and vested in the Subiaco Council. However, by then the popularity of markets on this site had declined, and eventually was relocated to the site of the present markets. The area has recently been re landscaped as part of the sunken railway station redevelopment in 1999.
