The site is a prominent natural feature of the landscape
The place is notable as a quarrying site of granite to produce blue metal, being one of two
in the shire.
A granite hill, some 340 metres in height about 3 kilometres west of the Woodanilling
township.
Land in this general area had been taken up by Tim Quartermaine, Ben Hobart and
George Taylor. Taylor sold his property in 1923 to Henry Kippin whose descendants
own this and surrounding land today. Henry and Mary Kippin with their two year old son
, Harry, came to Woodanilling in 1904 from South Australia to manage RL Richardson's
Store. For seven years they lived in the town and moved to Nampup (Nyabing) to
manage another store for Richardson. When they returned in 1916/17 Kippin built a three
roomed weather board house on the land they had bought west of the town.
Ben Hobart also worked at Store Manager for Richardson and in 1920 left the store and
went farming. However in 1931 he died at the age of 52
