Statement of Significance

Halfway Rocks are so named because of their location halfway between Southern Cross and Bullfinch. In the early days of horse drawn transport the area was a popular picnic spot for travellers and a resting point for the horses. It is said that is was also the location of a sly grog shop in the early Bullfinch era. Today it is a recognised wildflower area.

Physical Description

The geological feature known as Halfway Rocks is situated adjacent to the Southern Cross/Bullfinch Road, halfway between Bullfinch and Southern Cross. The feature is similar to other laterite outcrops in the Yilgarn which have been left standing after extensive erosion in the Tertiary duricrust layer of the earth's crust. Known as a breakaway bluff, the huge rocks are prominent in the landscape and feature a low arch. There are some mature trees in the arch which provide some shade.
