The site is significant in representing a way of life in a town that no longer exists.
Alec Crombie's uncle "Scotty " Smith started the blacksmith shop in Bilbarin after leaving the farm. He also had a variety store, and was later an agent for the Corrigin Co-op. Smith's store was managed by Con and Lottie Busch for some time, but the store closed when they left to take over their own business in Corrigin.
