The site represents a way of life and associations with settlers of a
different generation.
A meeting in Hyden on 29 April 1953 suggested that the town have
a"square".
It was named Coronation Park due to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second during the year of
1953.
In 1962 dangerous trees were removed from the "square"
In 1977, committee was formed to set up a plan of development. The "Square" was dedicated by the
Governor, Major General Michael Jeffrey in 1995. It has since become a townscape committee project.
