Category 4

Significant but not essential to an understanding of the history of the district: photographically recorded prior to any major redevelopment or demolition.

Statement of Significance

The site is significant due to its association with postal communications and also for its
linkage with pioneering families.

Physical Description

Built of stone, the building was a long narrow structure with the smaller sides facing Burt
Road (This had a high frontage with a blue frosted glass window). The roof was
virtually flat.

History

The building had previously operated as a paper shop and had postal facilities transferred
to it from the Richardson & Co store site.

It appears to have ceased operations in the 1940's and some time later was the residence
of the Barry Boyd family. Later it was used as shearer's quarters and finally demolished
due to rising damp problems in the 1970's.
