The site is significant as the site of the first timber mill in the Boyanup area.
The Runnymead Mill was the original timber mill in the Boyanup area. It
was located in the midst of a good stand of timber, and there were many workers in the area. The land was thrown open for selection on conditional purchase, and many retired mill workers selected land and settled on the blocks, establishing horticultural industries on the small holdings. Up until the 1970s, it was grazing land , although at that time it was sold for small lots, and became a dormant suburb of Boyanup.
