The building is significant for its historical architectural character, for its origins in the early settled part of the port and as an example of appropriate recycling and sympathetic restoration. The building now demonstrates the potential of much of the early fabric of the city.
Restoration of this early house, built iiin c.1860 has returned an important element to a section of the city where commercial and residential co-exist. Rendered stone walls, lined out to represent ashlar, protective verandahs with decorative fascias, french doors and small paned windows - are representative details of Victorian domestic buildings of the mid 19th century of the Colony. The original shingle roof has been replaced with corrugated iron, a not inappropriate alternative roofing material
