The place has historic value as a demonstration of the 1890's entrepreneurial development in Toodyay and for its association with local businessman Charles Ellery. The building has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape of Stirling Terrace.
Single storey row of six shops of rendered brick construction and iron roof. The parapet has been divided by pilasters adorned with urn finials. Bullnose verandah canopy supported on turned timber columns. the shops all have different style frontages.
In 1888, Charles Ellery, a boot maker, bought this land and in c.1892 he built this group of shops. In 1901 Ellery was an inaugural member of the Newcastle Board of Health and in 1906 he was a member of the Newcastle Vigilance Group which was formed to promote improvements for Toodyay including the railway and water supply. in the 1930's the shops were occupied by a butcher, saddler, fish and chip shop, chemist, tailor, draper and a garage next to the hotel.
