The City of Fremantle has identified this place as being of some cultural heritage significance for its contribution to the heritage of Fremantle in terms of its individual or collective aesthetic, historic, social or scientific significance, and /or its contribution to the streetscape, local area and Fremantle. Its contribution to the urban context should be maintained and enhanced.

Physical Description

94 Holland Street is a single storey rendered and iron house set on timber stumps. Walls are rendered. The roof is gabled and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a separate roof and supported by square timber posts between rendered balustrading. The verandah has been infilled with louvers making visibility of the original house partially obscured. There is a timber and cyclone mesh and iron gate fence to the front boundary.

History

Twelve houses Holland Street (Nos. 90-112) were all built by 1902.
Numbers were allocated in 1905. The house was originally number 165, and became number 94 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937.
John Charles Gunson was the main occupant of No. 94 in 1905 and lived there until 1927. Another long-term resident was William Hendry (1930-c1942).
The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2118) shows a simple square house with and a full-length front verandah. There was a long narrow outbuilding at the back on the west side.
Aerial photos show that between 1985 and 1995 the house was extended at the rear.
