The place is of historic and aesthetic significance as an example of a former commercial building in the Federation Warehouse style in Fremantle.

In this estimate was included an amount of £7,500 pounds for extension of car barn accommodation. As Loan Moneys were not raised for this expenditure and it was absolutely essential that the Car Barn accommodation should be provided in order to house a number of cars, including four new bogies, for which there is no room in the present carbarn, [High St] the work has been taken in hand, the cost of which will be disbursed from the Board's Depreciation Fund. The new building should be completed within the next 3 or 4 months." By 31 August 1924 the new carbarn, paint shop and stables had been completed.
