The site is important for its association with the development of recreational activities in
the district.
Located on a reserve four kms east of the townsite. The members would shoot from the
south end of the range north towards Robinson Road.
The pit used by the target men is still evident being some 2-3 metres in depth. North of
this is a large mound to collect any stray bullets.
Rifle shooting was a popular pastime in early times and was encouraged by the
Commonwealth Government as it was seen as adding to the nations defence capacity. In
1914 the club had 68 members and the sport was so popular that a second range was
being mooted, but the war was to intervene. There was also a rifle range at Cartmeticup
at this time.
