• The place is representative of the development of the Shenton Park area following the introduction of the Workers’ Homes Act in 1912.
• The place is an aesthetically pleasing example of an Inter- War Bungalow, one of the key features of which is the distinctive verandah.
An Inter-War Bungalow constructed of brick and tile. One of the key features of the façade is the distinctive and visually prominent verandah/porch located centrally on the elevation. The structure is of rendered masonry construction with wide piers and feature arches to each side. The balustrade is of concrete formwork construction in a lattice work influenced design. le with a complex hipped roof.
The property is located within a subdivision surveyed in 1933 for the Worker’s Home Board. The land was one of the few remaining large areas of undeveloped land, Perth Suburban Lot 318, which was bounded by Railway Road, Aberdare Road, Smyth Road and the rear of residential lots along the southern side of Charles Street. This new subdivision included the creation of Harvey Road and John Streets, plus a local park bounded by these streets. Development of the area was largely completed during the 1930s, with approximately 90 houses being built during that decade.
