Court Hotel is a fine example of the Federation Free Classical Style with strongly contrasting materials, textures and colours that create visual interest. (Criterion 1.1)
Court Hotel is a prominent element and landmark in the streetscape of Burt Street. (Criterion 1.4)
Court Hotel has historic value as a demonstration of the development that occurred in Boulder around the turn-of-the-century as it became the service centre of the district. (Criterion 2.1)
A two-storey commercial building built to the building line of Burt Street in the Federation Free Classical Style (Apperly et al, 1989: 136-139). The exterior of the building is highly decorative and features a balustraded parapet, rock-faced stonework contrasted with red brick quoin work and stucco treatment, a colonnade at the ground floor level with a balcony above, semi-circular arch fanlights to the ground floor openings, and an entrance porch crowned with an octagonal tower with a mansard roof that enhances the asymmetrical form of the facade as well as highlighting the pedimented entrance portico.
The shopfront, in the early 1990s, at the west end of the facade has been re-built.
The Insurance Plans for Boulder c. 1900 illustrate that Lot 136 had the Court Hotel (constructed of brick) and a small shop, Schutz Tobacco (constructed of iron) facing Burt Street. Schutz Tobacco had a verandah that extended over the footpath.
