Physical Description

32 Suffolk Street is a single storey, rendered masonry and tile house with a symmetrical facade designed as an example of the Inter War Bungalow style of architecture. The walls are rendered masonry. The roof is hipped and clad with tiles. The facade has a central front door with fanlight flanked either side by timber casement windows. The verandah has a separate tiled roof and is supported by square rendered masonry columns. There is a rendered masonry and timber picket fence to the front boundary line.

History

Suffolk Street is named after the English county, as per Norfolk and Essex Streets.
This house was formerly 6 Suffolk Street, the numbering changing in 1935/36 to 30 Suffolk Street and changed again in 1960-64 to the current number.
This house was built for George Leonard Ordner in 1927/28. It was erected by builder H. R. Staples at a cost of £750. The first occupant was Mrs A Elsegood. In 1949 it was occupied by Mrs Cath Bishop.
A photograph taken of the house in 1978 shows that the house was originally face brickwork of a light colour with a low brick wall of open concrete blocks on the front boundary. A photograph from 1995 shows that the house had been rendered and a new wall built on the front boundary. A real estate article dated 1995 indicated that internally the house had not changed significantly since its construction which was estimated to be in the 1950s by the writer of the article.
